A List Of Horror Movies
A list of horror movies from Brian De Palma should include the movie Raising Cain which came out in 1992. John Lithgow plays a variety of split
personality wackos with relish. Remember this guy from 3RD Rock From The Sun? This man can truly act; he's real good at playing villains! He plays
five individuals in this movie and you believe every one of them! Written by De Palma as well, the story is about a child psychologist (Lithgow) who is so
obsessive about his little girl, Amy, that he quits his practice to concentrate on raising her, while also studying her. His doctor wife pursues her own
affair on the side with disastrous results on Carter's psyche; he starts to unravel, revealing his other personalities: the evil, foul mouthed killer Cain,
innocent seven and a half year old Josh, the insane Margo(Lithgow in drag will scare the crap outta you), and Dr. Nix, his long dead father. De Palma plays
with you here, making you wonder if Carter's father, Dr. Nix, is still alive. Then children start disappearing!
We thought we'd need the movie version
Cliff's Notes to try to figure out this movie at times! It jumps around allot while including "dream states" from the characters point of view. You
don't know if they are real or not! Also, hearing four letter words come out of Lithgow's mouth was a shocking delight! The movie is classic De Palma:
Knives (De Palma's obsessed with blades, slicing and dicing), wide film shots panning to the right or left and staggering close-ups. De Palma keeps you
on the ropes while Lithgow keeps you riveted. You'll wonder what this maniac is going to do next? Have a look at Horror Stew's Raising Cain trailer!

Carrie dominates a list of horror movies that many consider Brian De Palma's best work. For a complete rundown on Carrie, check out our Carrie review page!

We checked out De Palma's The Fury (1978) recently (and a great movie to make a list of horror movies). It stars two heavy Hollywood hitters, the great Kirk Douglas, and the late John
Cassavetes. They both play former colleagues of a United States agency who turn bitter enemies after Cassavetes tries to assassinate Douglas and steal
his supercharged telepathic/telekinesis gifted son Robin, played here by Andrew Stevens. Douglas survives and goes hunting for his son. Kirk Douglas does a
awesome job here of keeping his character tight as he masterfully evades Cassavetes agents as they try to trap him. Cassavetes plays the role of bad guy with
aplomb; you'll hate his guts by the end of the film, we promise! Amy Irving is wonderful alongside Douglas as another gifted girl that is seeking help from
Kirk's son Robin, if they can find him that is. De Palma scores well with this film, exploring (like Carrie) what telekinesis can do in the hands of the
innocent after bitter betrayal. See The Fury Trailer!

Dressed To Kill ends a list of horror movies from Brian De Palma that we think are significant to the
horror fan. When this movie came out in 1980, critics called De Palma a rip-off artist of Hitchcock's work. We don't agree. In fact, the movie
should be viewed as a compliment to Alfred Hitchcock. De Palma certainly is no Hitchcock, but the work he does merits honor.
The movie stars Michael
Caine, Angie Dickinson, and Nancy Allen. You'll also see Dennis Franz as Detective Marino in this, a role he knows inside out! Now, we won't give the movie
away, but as the movie starts, right away De Palma shocks you with an up-close, no holds barred shower scene with Angie Dickinson that leaves nothing to the
imagination! If that's her body at age 50, then that lady still had it! Caine does a great job as her psychiatrist, Dr. Elliott, trying to help her with
her sexual frustration problems. He plays an ongoing role throughout the film. Nancy Allen plays a call girl who sees a murder and spends the rest of the
film evading the killer herself. Expect sex, sleaze, straight razors, and cynicism in this film. One thing's for sure, you won't fall
asleep!
