Alien Trailer
Alien, Ridley Scott’s (Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Hannibal) wonderfully claustrophobic space opera released in 1979 didn’t set the stage for invasive alien life; it defined it. Or, at least, the movie was promoted so well and with a lot of money that it pushed it to be the movie that everybody had to see at the time. This movie is a great Horror Sci-Fi flick about an ore ship that responds to a distress signal and finds instead a ship, eggs, and what appears to be one hell of a fight on the planet complete with an acid like substance that dissolves metal like heat melts butter. The characters are memorable: Dallas, Ripley, Lambert, Brett, Kane, Ash, and Parker. The movie set some strong tones about woman like Ripley who could kick some behind mentally and found out physically, to her surprise. Terrorized, beat down, yet wanting to survive, Ripley has to come up with a few plans and does. The movie also suggests the non-emotional complexity of a computer and how it can easily be controlled to commit murder on a large scale. If you haven’t seen the original Alien then please watch it. You’ll find that a lot of modern Sci-Fi writers copied the plot for their movies, like Species for example and many others.
