Based on the best selling book by Jay Anson, this Amityville Horror 05 version is a little more visually frightening then the 1979 movie with James Brolin and Margot Kidder. The movie does touch on some apparent torture of Indians long ago which is supposed to explain the evil forces in the house. Like the old film, this one does a great job of showing George Lutz coming apart at the seams as the evil that haunts the house grips him and reels him in bit by evil bit! The really scary part for me was when George is splitting wood and he makes Kathy's son hold the wood chunk in place while he has the axe coming down to split it, only saying "let go!" at the very last moment! Talk about a close shave! What kind of monster does that to his kid!?! A possessed one, that who. In this movie also, Jodie is a dead, but pretty little girl that's closely attached to the Lutz's youngest daughter, Chelsea. Another frightening moment for me was when Jodie lures Chelsea out on the top of the roof and to the edge to "go see" her dead daddy. Hey, I'm a parent; that freaked me out! A pretty good flick, all in all. Hoax or real? You decide!
