Carrie (Remake) Trailer

Original Carrie

After watching both Carrie horror movies recently, I have to ask why, why, why did they remake this film in 2002?!? If it was a money thing, ok, I'll buy that! That I understand. If re-making it was from an artistic standpoint, then Carrie 2002 failed miserably.

There are some good reasons to stick with the classic Carrie horror movie, namely, director Brian De Palma. This film has De Palma signature directing all over it. You'll see it in most of his films, the staggering close-ups, multi-framed scenes, and straightforward storytelling. This is the guy that brought you Scarface with Al Pacino, and The Untouchables, with Kevin Costner, among others! Round the Carrie movie out with an all star cast like Oscar winning Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Piper Laurie, and an awesome supporting cast, then you have yourself a top horror movie!!

The 2002 Carrie horror movie adds nothing to the mix. Angela Bettis as Carrie does a very good acting job; in fact, they all do in this movie. The girls that torment Carrie will show you the horrible side of girls being bitches to each other. They act this very well! You'll see most scenes in this movie duplicate the original Carrie, especially most of the scenes between Carrie and her crazy mother, played here by Patricia Clarkson. I enjoyed the scene when the kid on the bike yelled, "Creepy Carrie, Creepy Carrie!" at Carrie when she was walking down the sidewalk. Carrie, with her power of telekinesis, throws the kid (slow motion) over the handlebars of his bike and into a tree, breaking his arm!! That was better then the original where Carrie just wipes him out in the grass!

Of the two Carrie Horror Movies, Carrie 2002 concentrates more on her telekinesis then the original, having Carrie burn damned near the whole town down in the end as compared to the original Carrie just destroying the high school. The special effects in this 2002 movie are more apparent. Expect some differences in the ending of Carrie 2002.

Sissy Spacek, (Carrie 76) with her wide eyed, non-blinking stare captures the essence of a tormented, abused, and mentally brow-beated girl that's at the breaking point! Who will ever forget the pig blood splattered Sissy Spacek, slamming doors in the school gym, cutting off retreat of her enemy school chums, so she can burn them to death?

In choosing the best of the Carrie horror movies, stick with the first one. It's the best one, with better acting, directing, and visuals, as compared to the 2002 Carrie, which is just a weak copy of the first one. The original Carrie will draw from you the response, "I really feel sorry for this girl!" Sissy Spacek will convince you why she's an Oscar winning actress!!
