The first Creepshow short is called Father's Day, a story about a rich old, demanding bastard who constantly terrorizes his children, who are now older themselves. Ed Harris plays a small role as the granddaughter's husband, but nothing spectacular. You wouldn't think he'd be the big star he is now by that performance! The whole story centers on the old man who keeps demanding his father's day cake from one of his daughters. As he beats his cane on the arms of his chair, making one hell of a racket, one daughter caves his ever-loving head in with a marble ashtray. The rest of the family inherits all of the old man's money, but he eventually gets his last laugh!
The second story ("The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill") stars non other then the horror writer himself, Stephen King, as a dimwitted idiot who witnesses a meteor fall from space only to touch it and watch green space grass grow on him, his house, his land, and most of the county. Hey, he's actually a very good actor! Jordy doesn't get much luck in life but he captures it in the end.
The third edition is about an adulterer, played by Ted Danson (Cheers), who gets his comeuppance by Leslie Nielsen, who's no stranger to "bad guy" roles even though we all remember him as a comedy guy. The plot is that Ted Danson gets buried up to his head in the sand by jilted husband Nielsen because Ted is banging Nielsen's wife. The payback that Nielsen envisions isn't the one he gets, as he gets a visit from his victims!
The fourth part is about a long suffering English major who is constantly berated by his bitch of a wife. He longs to get away from her. The opportunity comes in the form of a box that's been in the University's possession since the 1800's. What resides inside is a monster that just loves human flesh! Don't miss, The Crate!
The final story is about a Doc who has a real dissatisfaction against bugs; here they are roaches. This guy could take a chapter from Howard Hughes and his phobias against "unwashed" canned food plus his preference for pissing into quart jars so he won't poison the sewer system. The Doc is rich, powerful, and financially intimidating, destroying the weak in his wake, but all he has on his mind is killing bugs! He's not only obsessed; he treats his minions like animals beneath him! Is it any wonder I wanted him drawn and quartered?!?!? I mean, he's a boss you want to take apart with your bare hands, he's such an ungrateful prick, and that's no joke. Anybody know a boss like that?!? (I do, hey, raise yer hand!) Anyway, this compilation is pretty good as George Romero ("Day Of The Dead, Dawn Of The Dead", "Night" & Land of The Dead") directs it all in combo with Stephen King's writing, so how can the horror lover miss? Check it out!
