This Universal gem is a 76 year old classic movie adapted from the novel by Mary Shelley that tells the tale of a Doctor gone mad with the desire to create a human being from dead body parts. This movie horrified movie audiences in 1931 and even though it's not as startling now, it has the potential to be just as grim as any new horror film made today because of it's subject matter....building a human being from dead body parts!! Today, doctors use dead body parts but in past times the thought of using cadaver parts was an abomination. Dr. Henry is obsessed with his work, work that secludes him in a lonely mountain top lab. His faithful assistant Fritz, a hunchback, gleefully helps him steal brains and body parts from the local cemetery to piece together his masterpiece. Fritz screws up and drops the good brain that he's in the process of stealing and grabs the abnormal brain. This is the one that the Doctor puts in his creature to obvious results. Disaster follows with Fritz being killed by the monster, the monster escaping, killing a little girl, attacking Dr. Henry's woman and finishing with a standoff in an old windmill surrounded by angry villagers. At first Frankenstein is elated at his work but soon swallows the bitter pill of defeat realizing exactly what creating the monstrosity has cost him.
