Wow, I hate to be a bummer, but I wasn’t impressed with the Halloween remake by Rob Zombie, which is unusual, because I thought House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects were pretty intense. With the new Halloween, however, I don’t think old Rob improved it one iota. He did expand why Michael Myers did what he did so long ago and zeroed in on his childhood after he murdered his sister Judith. That’s good, because fans have gotten very little of that in the past. In this movie, Michael is the same old Michael, stalking, slashing, and killing. Scout Taylor-Compton as Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis’s old role, just doesn’t do it for me. She doesn’t have half the talent and personality as Curtis does in this role. It seems like Laurie is not quite as virginal as her character wants us to believe and her friends Annie and Lynda, well, they’re trying too hard to act like the stereotypical slutty teen; I felt nothing at all when they got shredded by Michael. Kristina Klebe (Lynda) does some full frontal in this movie that’s memorable only because she looked pretty nice, but the only thing she brought to the role was her fur! I tried really hard not to be biased when writing this review and it seems like I am. I don’t consider myself a die hard John Carpenter fan by any means, so I don’t feel threatened by Zombie’s movie at all, so that's not it. I guess all I can say in Rob Zombie’s favor is that he had some hard shoes to fill and I think he did the best that he could given the material and the fact that so many movies have been done on the subject since the first movie was released. Are people finally sick of Michael Myers and the Halloween franchise?!? I don’t know, but the mask looked cool.
