Born a demon, and one of America’s greatest allies, Hellboy is a force to be reckoned with. Standing 6’5”, red, and weight unknown, HB (as I will refer to him from now on) and his psychic fish pal Abe Sapien work to keep the Nazi’s from making a comeback in modern times. I have to admit, I shamelessly loved this film! Directed by Guillermo del Toro, who also directed the ghost story called The Devil’s Backbone, this film roars right along with nary a drag down time in the story. Professor Broom found HB as a baby when he was with American troops in Scotland investigating the Nazis way back in 1944. The Nazis were tinkering around with the dark arts and ready to open a portal to let out some evil entities that would kill their enemies. Before they could do that, Broom and the soldiers blew up the machinery and closed the portal, but not before letting something through! That something was you know who! Hidden in secrecy within a government think-tank, HB was raised and trained to fight the monsters that threatened America through the years. HB doesn’t age like normal people, though. Think reverse dog years. He’s just a everyday guy with girl problems, as he battles for the love of Liz, a resident firestarter. There’s a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor in this movie, which I love! Ron Perlman (HB), (Enemy At The Gates) is an underrated guy who’s one hell of a great character actor. See this movie if you can! You won’t be disappointed!
