A great horror movie on dvd is the made for tv movie, The Night Stalker starring Darren McGavin (A Christmas Story, for all not sure of who the heck he is!). The movie came out in 1973 and was so succesful that they also made The Night Strangler and then started a series. When you get past the seventies feel, you'll realize that the stories and Darren McGavin really were the heart of this popular franchise. At odds with his boss, the cops, and close friends who think his vampire theory is just nuts, he barrels on alone, desperate to piece some murders together.

Look at these crappy yellow ties!! As a person who lived through the 70's, I will tell you that the clothing was sheer hell. THis horror movie on dvd shows the best of the early 70's with Kolchak in his straw hat, white buck shoes, and some crummy looking suit from God knows what era?!!? Kolchak is badly dressed but a very intuitive and smart crime reporter. Here, he receives some information from his hospital friend on what the condition is of the women who died. |

Yes, the body count keeps on rising in Vegas (you'll see old, popular casinos that are no longer there. History, my friend!) In this scene, Kolchak remarks while taking pictures that "Well, Bela Lugosi's struck again!", only to be properly shamed by the police because the family of the girl is standing there. What's funny is that Kolchak is always rubbing people the wrong way and putting his foot in his mouth.

The face of the bloodsucker, after police and Kolchak get a tip that he's in the process of stealing blood from a hospital! It makes you wonder if this vampire is wimping out on killing people for fresh blood or just lazy in that he'll steal it?!?

Here's Kolchak's girl. She gives him a bunch of books on vampires which he initially laughs off, but takes seriously after she expresses worry about him being out at night with a vampire on the loose. |

This is what makes this horror movie on dvd so good! Kolchak takes on the vampire by himself after making a deal with the police, (who are useless here, btw). Kolchak finds the vampire's coffin.
