House Of Frankenstein follows the film Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman. Dr. Frankenstein's castle has been flooded and destroyed. That doesn't stop Dr. Niemann (Karloff) and his pathetic hunchback Daniel (Naish) from seeking Frankenstein's important papers on the secrets of putting together dead body parts! Along the path of getting those papers they kill a traveling sideshow owner that has, as a main attraction, Dracula's skeleton complete with a wooden stake through his heart. Dr. Niemann pulls it out and Dracula comes to life to do the Doctor's bidding. Dracula (Carradine) doesn't appear long in this one. After he's killed off quickly when Daniel the hunchback throws his coffin out of the wagon at sunrise you feel that they just threw the character in as a bonus. Dracula has no real purpose in this film. When the Doctor and Daniel get to the castle they find Frank (Strange) and Wolfy frozen solid in an underground chamber. They get to work and unthaw them both to an enraged and disappointed Wolfman, who, by now, has reverted back to Larry Talbot. Dr. Niemann promises him a new brain so the curse will be lifted and that's only if Talbot can find Dr. Frankenstein's papers. They find them, then Dr. Niemann gets to work on bringing back the monster to full health, but we don't get to know why! Meanwhile (whew, where is this movie going, I'm thinking?!) Larry Talbot aka Wolfman has killed two people on two different moon-filled nights and gets blown away by a gypsy girl with a silver bullet. Daniel the hunchback is unhappy, of course, because he wanted Talbot's body with his brain in it and he's in love with the gypsy girl who loves Talbot. In a hilarious scene that made me roll on the floor in laughter, Daniel whips the strapped down Frankenstein monster because he blames him for Daniel not getting what he wants...a new body. It seems that Dr. Niemann is a tad obsessed and ignoring Daniel. The monster rips free, picks up Daniel, and throws his body (screaming all the way!) through a glass wall to fall outside to the ground below! Franky grabs Dr. Niemann and drags him out in the swamps to avoid villagers that are seeking to destroy them. They end up sinking together in quicksand. House Of Frankenstein is a classic free-for-all!!
