On the 4th of July, Julie, Ray, Helen, and Barry have every reason to celebrate. They are at the end of their high school careers and moving on to college. After a bout of tall-tale telling, drinking, and screwing on the beach, they hop into Barry’s car and hammer onto the highway. When a drunken Barry drops a fifth of whiskey thru the sunroof, a driving Ray runs over somebody on the highway. The group decides to dump the body out of fear for their futures. So begins a full year of torment as they all get stalked by a fisherman with one heck of a hook who some hilariously call the “Gorton” guy, although I believe that after watching this movie, the guy must’ve been studying Darth Vader to get his moves down! This film stars the really pretty Jennifer Love Hewitt whom I will henceforth refer to as “pretty girl with lungs”, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. as the foursome who run for their lives throughout the rest of the film. It seems that there is a mystery here. Who’s the guy that they ran over…really? Was he really dead when they dumped his corpse into the ocean? Obviously, somebody wants revenge on them, but they are taking their own sweet time about it. Hopefully, Julie can get it figured out before they all die by hook……or crook!
