Isle Of The Damned is a spoof of cannibal movies like Mountain Of The Cannibal God and Jungle Holocaust, with elements of Zombie Holocaust, and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie thrown in for good measure just in case an ingredient is missing! This film had me doubled over with laughter at times, especially when scenes like masturbating natives suddenly popped up and assaulted my mind.

The story is about a small group searching for the lost treasure of “Marco Polo” on an island. That’s the last sane plot piece you’ll ever understand as overweight white Anglo Saxon natives with huge black wigs, treasure hunters with fake bushy mustaches, incredibly bad hairpieces and 1970’s style mirrored aviator sunglasses entertain you with a yarn that moves along surprisingly well. There is some gore of people getting tore apart, but that’s secondary compared to the intentionally crappy overdubs and grainy film, deviant homosexuality between characters (young Billy and the bully Thompson) and Billy’s voice, supplied by director Mark Colegrove. Every time I seen Billy “talk” with Colegrove’s voice I broke down in laughter! He does a good job imitating a kid going through the voice changes of puberty. Every word Billy speaks is either full of angst or complete utter "jump up and down joy" complete with the clapping of his hands. There's something really weird about that "kid"!

You’ll witness chopped off arms, sliced off penises, natives eating human intestines, brains, etc. You’ll also see a captured Thompson eat a pile of steaming native crap because he’s so hungry. After that, an amazing ritual involving the sordid sodomizing of Thompson by every male member of the tribe for his cowardly ways made me wince. Even a native doesn’t escape punishment by his tribe for the crime of adultery as a spear is shoved in his rectum and comes out his mouth! One scene that grabbed me around the throat and knifed me from behind was when everybody was eating at the eccentric benefactor Alexis Kincaid’s mansion and was told the delicacy was "monkey meat topped with iguana semen gravy"! Young Billy really loved it.

This film can’t be categorized as badly made. It also shouldn’t ever be known as a six-pack special. It stands on its own the way it is, a clever comedy. I recommend watching it after watching Jungle Holocaust, because you’ll appreciate it so much more after seeing a serious cannibal movie. It makes Isle Of The Damned’s determined humor that much more sublime!
