Masks Of Horror Workshop
Masks of horror have been around since time began. Tribes of any type, theater people, people performing religous rites, murderers, and robbers have wore them. People get buried in them. People also have naked parties with nothing but a mask on! (Nobody ever invited me to one of those!) I won't bore you with allot of details concerning the history of masks. Yawn! That's for the dry encyclopedias out there. I want us to get straight to the fun stuff and that's showing how to make some simple masks of horror!!

We will start with a cool one, grisly, and death personified: The "No Stitch" Executioner Hood!! This mask is one of the few masks of horror that can be made very simply with just a little fabric (2 yards, about eight dollars)...cheap! I've seen some fancy executioner hoods out there but the idea that those dirty, greasy, double axe wielding head choppers had pretty designs in their hood is just plain silly!

Supplies
scissors, 2 yards of black polyester, or rayon, Stitch Witchery, pins, white chalk, an iron, and a soft (flexible) tape measure
 |
| Polyester or rayon |
Lay out your material flat and smooth it out. Fold it lengthwise.
 |
| Half A Hood |
Trace your pattern on the folded fabric. The measurements we used are: 44" wide at the base of the hood,14" wide from ear to ear at the hood area, and 36" from the point down to middle of the base of the pattern. Remember to half the first two measurements because your fabric is folded.
 |
| One Side Of Hood |
Cut out your new addition to your masks of horror collection! Make the second side just like you did the first one.
 |
| Cutting Duplicate |
Lay out your fabric flat and put the first cut out piece on it and pin it on the edges to the material. As soon as you have it pinned, cut around your first pattern to make a duplicate of it for your second side.
At this point, you'll have both masks of horror sides cut out and ready to "stitch witchery" them together! Remember, this is a no-sew project, but if you can sew, hand or machine, go for it!

Ironing |
Take out your pins. Get out the stitch witchery and place it around the edges of the fabric, all except the bottom edge of the hood. Lay the other piece on top of the other piece, matching it up. Set your iron on polyester setting and iron them together good. Let the fabric cool. The stitch witchery welds the fabric together!
You should have both sides now welded together. Turn the hood inside out. Examine the seams. If you see any white stitch witchery at the seam area, take the iron to it lightly and it will disolve. Check the seams and make sure they are welded together. If not, iron some more. You should have no problem, though, with seam separation if you iron long enough the first time.
Put your hood on and take the white chalk and gently trace around where your eyes are. You'll then take it off and cut out the eye area with scissors. Cut out more of the hole if it's too small.
You are finished with your masks of horror mask!
A really cool addition to this project is the use of horror contact lenses! Check out these demonic inspired lenses to get some ideas and add some persona to your new masks of horror Executioner Mask!
