Salems Lot was a made for television special and directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It starred David Soul as the writer Ben Mears who finds something rotten in his hometown when he moves back to write a book on the old Marsten House, a house that has been the setting for many a disturbing murder over the years. Ever since he was a kid, Ben has been frightened of the house, imagining that he seen something bad happen there (or not imagining!). Now as he starts to write and finds a new romance with a lovely girl named Susan (Bonnie Bedelia), things start to happen to people in town. Two boys disappear, the hospital starts to fill up with people who have anemia, and the local gravedigger Mike Ryerson, on a more personal note for Ben, shows up at his restaurant table with two holes in his neck and feeling very weak. It turns out that Mike did some work for the new antique shop owner Mr. Straker. He delivered a large box to the cellar of the Marsten House, where Straker is staying. Somehow, Ben and Jason Berk, Ben's old teacher, feels that Mike's neck holes and weakness is connected to the disappearance of the missing boys, Straker, and the evil Marsten House. Pretty soon, people that have died start to turn up missing from the morgue! It doesn't take long for Ben, Jason Berk, Susan, her dad, and Mark, a local boy that's into horror to abandon logical thought and realize that the town is infested with vampires. They have to act quickly, sharpen their stakes, and head up the hill to the Marsten House to take out the head vampire who is a nasty looking mother!! Not only is this an excellent adaptation from Stephen Kings book, the book itself is a must read if you ever find the time!
