Scarecrow Horror Movie: Buy, Rent, Or Stuff It?
I watched the Scarecrow horror movie recently and have to say that the movie wasn't the
most terrible horror movie I've ever seen. This movie is easily comparable to Friday
The 13th because it runs along those same themes: something happens to the main character
and to get revenge, the character starts murdering off his enemies. In Scarecrow, it's
Lester. In Friday, it's Jason.
The movie didn't really have a good plot. Lester was picked on allot, then was killed by
his mother's boyfriend (a dual roll played by the guy that played the sheriff) when Lester
caught them doing the big nasty in the trailer they lived in. Lester got killed
underneath the scarecrow in a cornfield. Then his soul fled into the Scarecrow.
Boneless and lightweight, the new Lester could back flip, somersault, and double axe handle
slash his high school enemy's heads with glee! The only girl that showed him any care or
affection, Judy, was almost a victim to Lester/Scarecrow's maniacal mirth. In the end, she
whips his straw butt with a can of gasoline and her kick butt attitude! (Of course, with
two sequels, I guess this didn't work!) This girl didn't want to go down. Pretty and
gutsy, a great combo!
The Scarecrow horror movie wasn't scary at all. In fact, I was laughing sometimes,
especially at the redneck boyfriend of Lester's mother (the sheriff) who had on a big black
wig, moustache, and sideburns and did a very poor redneck imitation!
I feel we prefer our horror movies to be a little more glamorous, and intelligent. The
Scarecrow horror movie compares to horror movies of 25 years ago, like Friday the 13th and
Halloween. I'm sure it would have gone over very well in those days. Scarecrow does a
very good job of mimicking those films.
In my opinion, don't buy the Scarecrow horror movie. Save your hard earned money, and
rent it! It's not a classic to add to your horror collection. It's just mindless
horror entertainment.
