| When John Catapano got in touch with Horror Stew about his book The Baby Boomer Horror And SciFi Movie Trivia Book and pleasantly asked me if I could do a promotional for him, I was cool with it! After all, John sent me a copy of his book free AND I get new, free, and exciting horror content for this website. It’s, as they say, a no brainer. When I pulled the book out of the box, I thought, “Holy crap this is a thick book for a trivia book!” I opened it up and what I started to read warmed my heart. John himself says that, “I have been a life-long “monster” movie fan.” It showed with the opening chapter questions about a range of movie vampires, most notably Bela Lugosi, Universal’s celebrated blood drinker. |

I had some memory problems with this book of addictive trivia when a question asked “What actor played Count Yorga, Vampire (1970)?” Ok, I just watched the movie not long ago and posted an official trailer on it! Did I remember who acted in it? No! I had to cheat and look at John answers in the back of the chapter. The book is dizzying with all kinds of horror and sci-fi questions that you may or may not know. I also had to smile when I read a question about The Green Slime, a movie my wife thought was utterly stupid (I thought it was cool), that asked, “How did The Green Slime, (1968), kill their victims?” Anybody? Well, I won’t tell you. |

I was very impressed with the amount of questions (1000!) in The Baby Boomer Horror And SciFi Movie Trivia Book about what most people might consider vague about definitely out of date and almost forgotten movies. He covers Hammer Horror, which is cherished here on this site like Oscar material! John covers Vampires, a variety of Frankenstein’s, Werewolves, early silent horror and sci-fi films, 50’s and 60’s space exploration and it’s grisly and sometimes horrific discoveries, Japanese monsters like Godzilla and others, Mad Scientists, Mummies, flying saucers, serials (Whom John said inspired George Lucas to make a little film called Star Wars), and giant bugs. Then he throws a wrench into the mix and lists the James Bond franchise’s actors and actresses and asks you to guess what genre (horror or sci-fi) movie they played in. Does anybody reading this right now think this guy is normal?! :) He also covers King Kong and all of the relative films in that mix. Dinosaurs and lizards, zombies, and a couple more surprises round out this exhaustive tome! Whew! I like to think Horror Stew is well rounded with info, but after looking through this book by John Catapano, I can see I have a lot to learn yet. |
