The Fly Trailer
Be afraid, be very afraid… this movie, a remake of the science fiction classic, is not only scary and gory, but it is one of the most twisted love stories ever told. Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a nerdy scientist, is finally having some luck when he invents a teleporter, surely one of the greatest inventions of all time, and he falls in love with journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis). But everything goes horribly wrong when he attempts to teleport himself and a fly lands in one of the transmission booths. After this he gradually turns into a human-sized fly, shedding his body parts in a few gory and gross scenes. The film is not only scary but tragic as well, with Veronica not knowing what to do, still in love with him while he is turning into a fly. The Fly is also an allegory for disease: how horrible it would be to slowly die and how disease changes you. One of director David Cronenberg’s (Videodrome) best films, this is one movie you won’t soon forget. -Melissa Helwig *Melissa Helwig is an intern at Horror Stew and will be a graduate of print journalism at Sheridan College as of May 2007.
