The House By The Cemetery is a Lucio Fulci feature which means slows periods of dialogue before hitting the viewer with shocking gore! The Boyle family moves from New York to Boston so that the father, Dr. Norman Boyle, can pursue his work there and earn an extra five thousand dollar bonus. What a price to pay, however, as strange noises pop up from time to time in the old house they move into. Heavy footsteps, crying, doors slamming, and things being dragged start to unnerve mom Lucy Boyle. Son Bob is keen to the evil house at once, courtesy of a pretty little red haired girl named Mae, who warns him constantly to stay out of the house. Did I mention she's dead? Bob doesn't know or probably even care, you see, he spends his time screaming his head off throughout the whole film.
The old house is formally the Freudstein house, which Lucy finds out while cleaning. Her broom hits something hard under the carpet; when she peels it back she finds the stone top of a crypt bearing the name of Jacob A. Freudstein. It creeps her out that a person is buried in the floor of the house. Then there's the babysitter, Ann, who says nothing and really makes you believe that she's in on all of this evil, that is, until she gets her head sliced off. The star of the film is the cellar, with its antique green finished door that won't hardly open. You think people would stay away from it, but curiosity killed the cat, as they say! Something is lurking down there........and hungry.
