The Mummys Tomb follows The Mummys Hand with Lon Chaney Jr. playing the role of Kharis, the mummy. This film is a continuation some years later after the expedition to find Ananka's tomb, which Stephen Banning and his goofy friend Babe did. Of course, there was a curse on anybody that entered the tomb as well as the high priest being totally pissed that anybody would dare enter, as he was the caretaker of the tomb. So, in revenge, although it appeared that in the last film he got shot to death by Babe, he instructs a faithful follower the art of Tanna leaf brewing (here we go again!) and tells him to take Kharis, the mummy to the United States to kill the entire Banning family. This is the shortest mummy film I've seen (60 min) and some of it is flashback material from the last film. Lon Chaney's menacing mummy is the saving grace of this edition, as he does a great dusty shambling lurch throughout the film. And lest one gets bored, Universal carts out a good old fashion "angry villagers with torches scene", a staple of these films! In my opinion, a Universal flick just isn't the same without one. The only thing missing was a battering ram!
