This version of Edgar Allan Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum combines the talent of Stuart Gordon, Full Moon Productions, and a great cast! The movie is set during the reign of the Spanish Inquisition, a time of ignorance, superstition, and hypocrisy. Torquemada, (Lance Henriksen) the Grand Inquisitor, rules with an iron fist, executing innocent people based on a set of "tests" within his castle that are set up to make the innocents lose, even if they admit to being a heretic or not. Things go along as usual until bakers Antonio and Maria, husband and wife, get caught up in the blood-thirsty crowd at an execution and noticed by Torquemada, who's immediately consumed with lust for Maria. Of course, he thinks she's bewitching him, putting all of his horny thought patterns back on Maria as her "guilt". So begins Maria's struggle to survive within the castle amongst the gruesome torture and trying to get back to Antonio, that is, if Torquemada lets her!
