I'm not sure why this movie got so many bad reviews. It has great special effects! It has a great story line that's very similar to the old Universal classics. The monsters were excellent. There's more morphing into sinister evil beings then you can shake a stick at. Werewolves peel off their human skin in chunks (sick!) as they transform. Dracula's face get's horrific when he bites thanks to CGI effects. Frankenstein's monster has a green, pulsating brain that's in constant motion. Dracula's babes fly around better then a jet fighter and twice as mean, picking up frightened villagers and tossing them around like a football. There's even a cow that gets a free ride! The movie provides you with a visual onslaught that never lets up. This movie never slows down. Also, you have the handsome, debonair Hugh Jackman as Gabriel V. H. kicking some monster behind! Also, look for David Wenham (Faramir from Lord Of The Rings) as he does a comic turn as the shaky, dorky Friar Carl, Gabriel's weapons manager! What a great actor! My only two complaints about this movie is that it's too long and Dracula hints at Van Helsing's long life-line, one that Van Helsing doesn't remember but Dracula does, but the movie never really goes there too deeply. It would've been more interesting with some flashbacks to discover more about the Dracula/Van Helsing relationship. Oh well, you can’t have it all, I guess!
