This film is the effort of an interesting director named David Cronenberg (The Fly, The Dead Zone, Scanners, Rabid, among others). This movie is perhaps the strangest I've ever seen him do. An always great James Woods stars as Max Renn, head of a cable channel that desperately needs some new material. Max seeks out where this snuff show (sex, torture, sadism) originates from to see if he can make a deal to use it on his cable network. He finds out it's for real after his girlfriend, Nicki Brand (Deborah Harry), never comes back after going to the Videodrome show to "audition". Max is controlled mentally once he views the show and controlled like a puppet by the creators of the show. Max murders his TV station partners because V-Drome's head wants the station to brainwash and brain-damage millions of viewers with it's subliminal messages. If that part of the movie doesn't interest you, Cronenberg pulls out his "gore ball bat" and tries for the sick out, as evidenced by V-Drome's boss dissolving after Max shoots him! The movie has some pretty good effects, Cronenberg-style!

Videodrome James Woods as Max Renn, head of Civic TV, taking out the head of the mind altering V-Drome show.
After blowing him away, the evil is out for the count (or is it?)
V-Drome head Barry Convex suffering a huge migraine.
The time it takes him to dissolve suggests that he's not everything he seems.
