What Ever Happened To Baby Jane Trailer
What Ever Happened To Baby Jane tells the tale of two sisters, played with relish by two of the most well known actresses of old time Hollywood, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. In fact, if Davis were to read this review today, she'd be pissed that her name was mentioned after Crawford's name! That's what really made this movie so good, the real life rivalry that these two stars had between each other, competing for roles, and popularity in the golden age of studio-made movies. What Ever Happened To Baby Jane starts out with Davis's character, Baby Jane Hudson, as a vaudeville star that danced and sang. Vaudeville, however, died off after awhile with the popularity of a new medium, namely film. This is where Baby Jane's sister Blanche's star shines! She becomes a Hollywood sensation in the movies while Baby Jane starts to decay. Her career fades and she turns bitter. If she was nasty to Blanche as a child, she became a real "you-know-what" later. After a car accident paralyzes Blanche with a suspect Baby Jane to blame, the two retire to a run down old mansion where Baby Jane keeps Blanche prisoner, denying her food, serving her rats for the main dish, physically beating her, and being mentally cruel all the while slipping off into her own brand of insanity trying to get her old vaudeville act back together complete with the little girl dress, ribbons, and former dance moves. Tragic. The jealousy Baby Jane has for Blanches success spills over into rotten hatred. Bette Davis had the plum role; she looked like a hag and acted like one. A classic horror film!
