Wolfen is not your usual werewolf movie. This one's a thinker. Albert Finney plays a down and out New York cop (aren't they all?) named Dewey Wilson who's handpicked to look into some random murders that are particularly violent with decapitation, torn out throats, and missing appendages being the usual situation! Dewey teams up with Whitting ( the late, great Gregory Hines) who's works in the morgue and Rebecca Neff (Diane Venora), another officer. Together they track the bizarre murders to possible animal attacks which lead them to a rundown area (complete with maggot infested human heads) of the city that's currently being torn down to be renovated. Whittington and Dewey stake out an old church out in the middle of the night with disastrous results. Also, Dewey meets up with an ex-con Eddie Holt (Olmos) and learns something about the spiritual aspect of these attacks and of the attackers. Our favorite scenes are in the morgue as Hines does some pretty good detective work with what's left of the bodies!
